What's Cooking
June 2026
June seems to be moving at a good rate. Not speeding, not slogging.
Some joy this month: the Wednesday knitting group. We share illness, happiness, family news, relationship renewals. It’s a very supportive group. Last week Kathleen brought cookie bars for a treat. She said I influenced her to bake.
Walking. I need to walk! Not much blooming now but there is usually a dog or two to pet and people to greet. And my back is SO much happier when I walk.
Fernbank continues to supply joy. The plantings are gorgeous.
This is the summer of T Rex so I volunteered for the exhibit opening day. I was at the craft table making crowns. Lots of crowns. Paper, gems, feathers, glue sticks, pom poms, kids galore. Fun!
I was invited to a birthday party. For a person in my age group. She threw it for herself, in what she said is a German tradition, at the park, in a pavilion with cake and snacks. Casual, easy and fun.
I listened to The Science of True Fun podcast. I thought it was very interesting. Adults need fun.
I finished a quilt that I started many, many years ago. I decided to forget perfection and just finish it.
Something ate all of the tops of my potato plants, maybe deer, maybe some other creature, but I decided to try and harvest. More than none!
I’ve been cooking too. I try and make meals that create leftovers. I try to not cook once or twice a week.
Chicken piccata pasta toss, easy and delicious. Asparagus leek filo quiche, any fruit crisp. Spring is my favorite season for weather, summer for fruit.
Zucchini rollups were kind of annoying to make but were very delicious. And mandolins scare me a lot. I bought mine at Buford Highway Farmer’s Market.
Farfalle with salmon, lemon salmon pasta. Salmon overload? Not to me.
Pizza using the dough from the spinach pizza the other week. I had dough, sauce, sausage in the freezer. From the fridge, the remainder of a jar of roasted red peppers and some banana peppers.
Now raining. Want to think about what to put in the potato patch. But of course realize that creatures might want to eat whatever I choose.
