What's Cooking
March 2026 part 2
And March is over. Still overall hard but I have discovered that not only for my physical health, mentally I need to walk. I have to ignore myself when I don’t want to go.
Spring is beautiful and dogs always good to pet. Blooming all over. New plantings near the memorial wall.
Azaleas all over.
Daffodils are done, dogwoods coming out, pine pollen greening everything. Some rain would be nice to wash the air.
I got a picture of Simon and the Goldens. The Goldens run up to get adored and Simon kind of just looks at them like they are embarrassing to be near. He’ll accept a pet but does not clamor. It’s best to stop so you can untangle without falling.
I’ve been baking more. I took another cake to Wednesday knitting. One piece left after the knitting group was served so I asked a woman reading if she’d like the last piece. She accepted and said it always looks like we have fun. So maybe she’ll join the group -raspberry lemon cake. Sprinkles always.
I’ve been doing some different things at Fernbank. I’ve gone on Saturday morning a couple times and met a new volunteer Joey at the desk. He’s been volunteering 4 years and worked at Fernbank at one time in graphic design.
I saw that Maria in education needed help with crafts for camps so I volunteered. I am not crafty but luckily it was just cutting things out. I can handle that. I took cookies and yes, used dinosaur sprinkles.
It seems like I’ve been cooking a lot. Food is definitely more expensive and although we had breakfast out not too long ago, restaurants are expensive. It is nice occasionally to have someone bring me food though.
Sale table at Buford - 5 pounds Yukon Gold for $2.99. I had to buy, I made potato leek soup and stocked the freezer. Also made loaded potato soup, russets were on sale.
Loco moco - a new recipe, very tasty. Basque cheesecake for us to enjoy. Paleo chili but I added black beans and had lots to freeze. It does freeze well. Of course cornbread to go with chili! Also good for breakfast the next day.
I went on a salad dressing kick - blue cheese and caesar, for dinners and once for breakfast. I love a jammy egg on salad for breakfast. I replace the mayo with yogurt since I am anti mayo.
Ground beef gnocchi, easy, comforting, gnocchi often bogo. Yes, home made are delicious but they take time. Other good gnocchi recipes - sausage and gnocchi soup, gnocchi with pomodoro sauce, shrimp and gnocchi.
Bella braised chicken was good. I made this often when personal cheffing.
I made fish several times. I love fish and guess I was craving it. Fish piccata, fish with dill sauce, cod with arugula. I used cod for all of the recipes. And added tiny potatoes to the salad. Yes, forgetting to take pictures!
Shopped at Costco this week, haven’t been since October so stocking up. Prices are higher. Yes, I got the giant bags (not sharing) of Cadbury mini eggs that are not part of normal shopping. They are carrying grass fed ground beef, three 1 1/3 pound packs that works out to about $6.50 a pound. Lucky to be able to freeze. Lucky to usually enjoy cooking.
