What's Cooking
Took a little vacation without much cooking but with a lot of joy, so dropping a mini update here. I visited Patti in New Hampshire! I left on the 12th and returned on the 17th.
No problems at the Atlanta airport or at Logan airport. There was more of a line in Atlanta but it moved. All of the people whether working for TSA or the airlines were very nice, very helpful.
Patti picked me up in Boston and off we went to her house to talk, relax and she made a lovely dinner of sea scallops. Fresh from her farmer’s market.
Patti and her husband monitor bird nesting houses so she and I went on Tuesday and Saturday. Bird nests, eggs and birds from Tuesday. Husband was on a trip with friend.
We knock on the box in case any parents are home, open the box, check to see what’s there and make notes. One parent was home and stayed when we went back Saturday.
One box had two more eggs.
Babies in one box.
Gorgeous day, nice Audubon wildlife area.
I think it was Wednesday when we journeyed for lobster rolls. The beach was also on the plan but it was somewhat rainy. Weather fine for lobster rolls. I tried Rhode Island calamari (garlic butter, peppers) delicious.
Our table faced the water where the boats came in.
We took clam chowder home for dinner but decided it would be lunch the next day. No cooking Wednesday night, just a snack. Patti was also a personal chef, also loves to cook but nothing fancy for our snack. I chose peanut butter toast (she had baked the sourdough bread), milk and cherries. She chose cottage cheese, bread and cherries. Simple is good.
Thursday was very rainy. Maybe it was Thursday when we made rhubarb rolls? Days run together on vacation. Patti picked the rhubarb from her garden.
We did not add the nuts, thought that was too much. We had some extra puree so added that to the frosting. A delicious breakfast Friday morning. Patti forced me to twist them, I need more twisting practice. They tasted much better than they looked.
Patti is a very nice person so she shared some with friends we met for lunch on Friday at a Greek festival. We ate everything - lamb shanks dinner for her, lamb souvlaki dinner for me and desserts to take home. Friday dinner - desserts and tea. No cooking.
We cooked Saturday night since Patti thawed pork chops for Friday but too much for Friday dinner. She marinated them in labneh, preserved lemon, some spices and they were delicious. No recipe, roasted with cabbage and Yukon gold potatoes.
Patti is a walker too, so we walked and talked two mornings. It is spring In New Hampshire, lots of flowers. And she has cats! They’re not big snugglers, but Enzo hung with me in bed a little.
Got home Sunday afternoon. Lots of traffic because of the 285 closure but just delay, no problems. Lots of laundry Monday, back to normal now. And maybe knowing the day of the week.
